Rough Gods photographer, Michael Alago, continues to thrill his audience with images from his latest book Polaroid Encounters. His photos of men are from all walks of life. Whether they're falling down drunk with a busted up arm crossing a highway or some huge beefcake wanting to be the exhibishionist in his Sunset Blvd hotel room. There is always a tender and sweet element to the tough guy persona in Michael's photographs. "I want the picture of anyone I shoot to take on a provocative and seductive quality,." Alago exclaims. "I work on setting a tone so that the energy occurring between me and the subject results in an unpredictable and dramatic image."
As a music executive at Elektra Records, Alago is best known for signing Metallica in the summer of 1984, changing the entire landscape of rock 'n' roll and heavy metal. He continued to work in A&R for both Palm Pictures and Geffen Records. He was thrilled to executive-produce albums by Cyndi Lauper, Public Image Ltd, White Zombie, and Nina Simone. In 2005, he left music to pursue his other love: photography. Alago went on to publish three bestselling books on male erotica: Rough Gods, Brutal Truth, and Beautiful Imperfections with German-based publisher Bruno Gmünder. In 2017, a documentary directed by Drew Stone and produced by Michael Alex on Alago's wildly successful career in music was released in theaters and on Netflix, entitled Who the Fuck Is That Guy? The Fabulous Journey of Michael Alago. In 2023 you can find the documentary on Prime Video,Tubi,Google Play X-Box and YouTube. His memoir, I Am Michael Alago: Breathing Music. Signing Metallica.
